Small Faces - 78 In the Shade (1978)

A while back someone requested that I upload The Small Faces 1970's comeback albums. At the time I only owned a copy of Playmates so I uploaded that. But I recently found this in a discount bin at a local record store. I feel exactly the same way about this as I do about Playmates. Not a bad listen, but no where near as good as the 1960's Small Faces recordings.

Small Faces - Playmates (1977)

Happy Easter long weekend everyone! I should be at work right now but I decided to take the night off to drink strongbow and rip a few records instead.

At the request of follower Lil Mike, here's the first Small Faces 1970's reunion album. I'm listening to this album for the first time as I'm ripping it because it was sealed until about 10 minutes ago. I'm only on the second track so far, and so far it's a fairly enjoyable listen, though definitely quite the departure from the psychedelic mod rock these guys were famous for in the 1960's, instead they've headed in more of a soul/r&b and at times country direction. Steve Marriott's voice has changed a lot in the 9 years since their previous album, often cracking and sounding much weaker than before, and there's quite a few references to cocaine (especially in the opening track "High and Happy") that show case the wreck that Steve Marriott's life had become.

Overall not a terrible listen, but don't expect anything as quality as Itchycoo Park (though there is a reference to it!), or Ogden's Nutgone Flake.

The Small Faces - The Autumn Stone (1969)

After Steve Marriott left the band high and dry during the recording of their third album for Immediate Records in 1968, Immediate Records instead decided to release this album, which is an anthology of sorts which includes hit singles from all the way back in their Decca years, to their final 45, as well as a few live tracks, a bunch of non-hit album tracks, and a few unissued tracks from the tail end of The Small Faces career which were probably intended for the never-finished third Immediate LP.
